Mullen Creek
Department of Land Transfer Info
Equipment
Feedback
Other Claims for Sale
Contact Us
Add To Favorites
DUCHESS GOLD MINE
20 Acre Placer Gold Mine located in Centennial, WY 82055
The Duchess Gold claim is a 20-acre unpatented placer mining claim at just over 9,000 feet in altitude on the historic past-gold-producing North Mullen Creek in the Medicine Bow National Forest on French Creek Road/US Forest Service Road 660 roughly a 45 minute drive from the small town of Centennial WY in the Centennial Ridge Mining District and maybe about a 60 to 75-minute drive out the “Big Little City” of Laramie, WY.
With excellent year round creek flow and a good 2-wheel drive dirt road that follows the course of the creek, French Creek Road, you will find that this is a great place to mine by yourself in seclusion - or bring the whole family and have a blast in the great outdoors while hopefully making some money while you’re at it!
Note that at this altitude, the road will most likely be inaccessible to all but the ruggedest vehicles in winter time due to the snow that can accumulate here since it is probably not plowed or maintained that well. But during the spring, summer and fall, even when it rains, it is a pretty well graded road and you will not need 4-wheel drive.
The road runs from about 15 feet to 50 feet away from the creek almost the entire length of the creek on this claim, and although the area is well-grown with brush and timber, there is relatively easy access to the creek from the road itself in a lot of spots. The creek ranges from about 6 to 20 feet wide and I would estimate is between 6 and 24 inches deep in most spots. Expect the width and depth to almost double during the spring melt/run-off.
If you have a small camper or a small RV/tent trailer, there is a couple of flats spots wide enough to pull just off the side of the road to camp not too far from the creek. But if roughing it is more your style, then there are also plenty of great spots right next to the creek to tent camp all along the creek/claim if you don’t mind walking 15 to 50-feet in to them. Either way, you will feel as though you are far from the hustle and bustle, while only being short drive from lodging, supplies and food when you’re ready for a break.
Buyer will receive the following with their completed transaction:
Quitclaim deed showing full ownership of the claim. This will be stamped, recorded and verified with the County and the BLM offices.
Welcome packet with all of the rules and regulations as they relate to the State and BLM where the claim is located.
Educational documents to annually renew your mining claim with the BLM.
A CD of all of the documented images of the claim including maps of the site.
Map of claim marked and GPS coordinates.
Multiple maps showing claim location and surrounding areas for access.
Come to Hike, Camp, Ride and Shoot - or come to pull some shiny rock$ out of the ground;-)
Due to the annual healthy spring melt which usually produces good flow from the runoff, new material is redeposited into this portion of the river every year, so there is an excellent chance of finding new placer gold here every year that you come back.
All photos of the creek and the area in this listing were taken on this specific claim. You will find that the creek has a number of gravel bars, some exposed bedrock and even some good-sized pools of slower-flowing year-round water where gold will tend to collect. In addition to panning for gold, this is a great claim to bring a metal detector and hunt for nuggets - especially around the base of, and under, large rocks and boulders, which there are plenty of for sure.
MAPS
Mining claims are a tangible asset just like any other Real property (real estate) and show a lifetime proof of all interests in minerals in the area specified by the above claim. Once you own this claim and the associated mineral rights, you will own them for life as long as you keep up with the annual fees. This claim can be bought, sold, leased or used as collateral, just like any other piece of real estate.
A mining claim can be willed or passed down to future generations as part of a trust or your estate, or you can trade it, lease it out for a period or time (or indefinitely), gift it to a family member or friend and you can also transfer or sell just an interest in it in part or in its entirety just like any other real property using a quitclaim deed which is a recordable conveyance. In other words, you could sell a 25% or a 50% share in it if you wanted in
