Both adits include a linear progression of workings reported to be in excess of 1,500 feet on a bench over Triangle Gulch, as well as 2 open cuts and 2 good-sized prospects. Development of the Triangle Gulch Lode originally extended out onto the Triangle Gulch bench. However, the main development was at the base of the hill slightly to the north of the original discovery trench. Both adits are largely blocked but could be re-opened and entered with about a days worth of work in our opinion.
The Triangle Gulch deposits were discovered by Colonel Washington Black on June 17, 1889 when he loaded a wagon bed full of surfice "float ore" from nearby Quartz Hill. At the time Black had been employed hauling ore from the Vipond Park mines to the railroad at Corrine, Utah. The Quartz Hill lode was patented (Pat. #21430 - Mineral Survey #3255) to Louis C. Fyhrie and others on May 23, 1892 . The patented property had a discovery shaft, four others shafts and buildings valued at $2,310. Because of the numerous great discoveries within the district, the mine was overshadowed in the mining literature by general Quartz Hill district developments (Wolle 1963; BLM Mineral Survey Records).
The adjoining Macdonell lode extended the Quartz Hill mine out onto the Triangle Gulch bench. This amended claim was located June 26, 1920 by Jones Macdonell who then patented the claim on July 31, 1920 (Pat. #848681 - Mineral Survey #10273). The property contained a discovery cut, another cut, three shafts and a tunnel, all valued at $695. Another nearby shaft was shown on the survey map but was not mentioned as an improvement. The major development of the Triangle Gulch mine occurred after a 1920 mineral survey.
The Triangle Gulch Mine would make for an excellent medium sized operation, and because it likely hasn’t been explored in decades, there may also be all kinds of relics found once the mines are re-opened. There are the remains of a cabin onsite, but it is mostly fallen down at this point. We would strongly suggest accessing this mine with 4-wheel drive, and while there is plenty of parking at the mine, I would not suggest trying to bring in an RV or a trailer unless some work was performed on the road. A small camper on a 4x4 pick-up would be OK I would think.
MINING DISTRICT PRODUCTION:
Mining began in the Elkhorn district with the discovery of silver in 1870. From that time, through the early twentieth century, the Elkhorn Mine, the most lucrative mine in the district, produced over 14.7 million ounces of silver, 20,000 ounces of gold, 14 million lbs. of lead, 2.8 million lbs. of zinc, and 148,000 lbs. of copper.
The Elkhorn mining district is historically referred to as a silver mining district; however, it has produced over 67,000 ounces of gold – 64 percent of all gold production has come from seven separate skarn occurrences scattered throughout the district, most of which are contained within Montana Mining’s Elkhorn Property.
(Samples that were pulled)
Beaverhead County, in the southwest corner of the State, had a recorded gold production of about 370,000 ounces through 1959, but early production records are incomplete and total output may be considerably larger. In 1862 the first major placer was discovered in Beaverhead County and it started a gold rush to Montana. Before 1900 production from placers probably was considerably larger than from lodes; however, from 1904 through 1958 the county produced about 116,350 ounces of lode gold and only about 14,800 ounces of placer gold.
Buyer will receive the following with their completed transaction:
Quitclaim deed showing full ownership of the claim. This will be stamped, recorded and verified with the County and the BLM offices.
Welcome packet with all of the rules and regulations as they relate to the State and BLM where the claim is located.
Educational documents to annually renew your mining claim with the BLM.
A CD of all of the documented images of the claim including maps of the site.
Map of claim marked and GPS coordinates.
Multiple maps showing claim location and surrounding areas for access.
Portable X-Ray Fluorescence field units (also known as XRF gu
